Through the Fire!

Who cries, whispers the West Wind to the East Wind
such a sad and lonely sound, so quietly in the night.

Do not weep, begged brother Moon to the child upon the ground
look up please, does not my silver glow bring hope to your heart?

Rock is cracking, said Water to Grandmother sun
from the weight of despair, that burdens this little one.

A song cries Jay, come Oriel sing and lift this child's burden
dance tsisdu, awi bring your spotted little one from hiding.

South Wind sighs a warm gust, hoping to distract him
such sorrow is not natural, to the young and innocent.

I will keep silent, North Wind offered
my wet cold breath, will only add to his troubles.

Look, his tears have called to the Cloud People
in sympathy, they are going to join in with a soaking.

How closely he huddles to Mother Earth, seeking protection
can the wide expanse of Father Sky, not distract him?

Hush, said Creator; leave him be in his mourning
can you not see, this small one alone is understanding?

So many gifts there are in this life, so much of beauty
and yet among his kind, there is a willing blindness.

This one gentle heart, I have allowed to see the future
his tears are precious, for they are offered in love of his brothers.

So young, sighed the Winds above
too small, cried the four legs and feathered.

Let us help carry his troubles, offered rock and waters
please allow me to comfort, begged Mother Earth, whose heart was breaking.

NO; Creator told them, this is his choice, I will not take it from him
to my two legged children I promised, it is their chance for atoning.

Alone he walks the path of his choosing, and alone are his decisions
only in this way, will his spirit reach true understanding.

Young they are, and impetuous, full of great passion
but they can not learn, until alone they walk through the fire.

Pain, hurt, and loneliness, build the strength that they are needing
one cannot enjoy the good, until they have tasted true sorrow!
